As the devastating floodwaters of the 1951 flood receded, many residents along the Kansas River from Manhattan to Kansas City faced the harsh reality that their homes were destroyed. How did the families of La Yarda, the Santa Fe housing complex for railyard workers, adapt and move forward to find new housing in the Lawrence community?
Join architectural historian Brenna Buchanan-Young on a historic walking tour through La Yarda in the 700-800 blocks of New Jersey and New York. The tour begins at the Lawrence Amtrak Santa Fe Depot at 10:30am. The tour concludes at Lawrence Beer Company where snacks and appetizers will be provided.
$20 from each ticket will support the Embattled Lawrence book series, an extensive anthology to preserve and communicate the past.
